Deena Goodman - Co-Founder

rebel spirit musicDeena Goodman spent her youth in Teaneck, New Jersey singing all sorts of songs on the Karaoke stereo her parents bought her in the 9th grade. Fortunately, at 18, she gave up karaoke for a real band and moved to nitty gritty Manhattan where she began singing around town at some of the city's premiere venues. She has written, recorded and played with some of the cities biggest names, loving every moment.

Dean McCarthy - Co-Founder

rebel spirit musicDean McCarthy is a working class hero.  He was raised by badgers and once killed a man with his watch strap over a fight for a moldy banana.  He made his way to New York's liberty island with a host of other Immigrants on board the SS Coconut which spent 40 days and nights travelling across the Pacific Ocean.  He now spends most of his time wearing trousers that are just tight enough to make people of both sexes look twice.

Nicole Polec - Promo Designer

rebel spirit musicNicole Marie Polec, the creative guru behind thai iced tea, grew up in the town of Romeo, Michigan. She started shooting at the age of 17 and never stopped using that passion. It is rumored that one new years eve she landed in New York and hasn't looked back since. from that night on, going home and milking goats on the family farm was no longer an option. Nicole enjoys a great game of stickball with the kids in the park, acting out on the subway, and music that makes you say "let's dance until the morning sun" or "wow, that bites."

Max Turk - Networking

rebel spirit musicMax is a wide-eyed girl who has been inspired by music and musicians since she was a child. Now, after years of lying about her age to get into venues to see the shows, she is finally of age, and starting to find her place in the industry. With genuine passion for good music, and endless smiles, Max drinks up the live-music scene all over New York. Known for her lively presence, and intuitive advice she loves meeting new people and learning anything she can from them. She is also everybody's friend.

Jeff Schram - Web Designer

rebel spirit musicJeff is either playing music, listening to music, making websites that play music or looking for a way to make a website that makes websites for him so he can spend more time playing music.

Alyssa Rashbaum - Music Reviews

rebel spirit musicAlyssa Rashbaum has written for MTV News, Spin Magazine, Vibe Magazine, and Paper Magazine, and has written bios for countless artists and producers. She enjoys non-shoegazy rock, watching unknown bands make it big for the right reasons, Guinness, hockey, and pretending to be Canadian.

Joel Crane - Reviews

rebel spirit musicBorn in London's famed East End district - and raised on copious amounts of Blues and Rock n' Roll - Joel Crane has become a staunch advocator for great British music, both past and present. Having written for such UK-based titles as Mojo, Q and the NME, Crane has since turned his attentions to the resurgent music scene currently engulfing New York City. Cursed with a poetic heart and that infamous dry, British sense of humour, he continues to flourish within the industry and his cheeky and affable personality makes for candid, entertaining reading.

Emily Raw - Visual Artist

rebel spirit musicEight years ago Emily Raw decided she'd rather be poor than miserable
& quit her job to paint. She's still figuring out how to eat & pay the rent simultaneously but, via a process of brutal trial & error, it's getting better all the time. Emily shoots rock stars in the studio & all over Greenpoint, Brooklyn, runs an all-girl crew of art instigators & contributes photos & illustrations to magazines as diverse as Missbehave, O & The Source. Every now & then she finds some time to paint.

REBEL SPIRIT MUSIC

rebel spirit musicRebel Spirit Music is a community and a network for fans, artists and industry professionals where each can learn, meet and grow together. Each an ever important member of this business we call music.

Late in 2007 a group of musicians and music lovers alike, disenchanted by the current music system, got together over a bottle or two of their favoured ale and came up with the idea to create a space that would help, support and develop the careers of independent artists both individually and as a community.

Big thoughts, led to big talk, which led to big action and low and behold Rebel Spirit Music was born.

The creators of Rebel Spirit Music recognized a trend within the local music scene growing in Manhattan. Great music, great people, all pursuing their individual careers, each on their own but not utilizing what and who was right around them to take things to the next level.

Our goal is to draw the community together, starting in New York and ending, well who knows where? Our website www.rebelspiritmusic.com has been designed to help artists, no matter what stage their careers are at, to pursue THEIR goals and to network with fellow individuals who are also pursuing THEIRS!

Rebel Spirit Music offers booking capabilities, inside industry advice, recorded music and live venue reviews meant to inform artists and music lovers about who to listen to and where to book themselves. We are also excited to offer a FREE showcase of amazing artists taking place monthly at The Rockwood Music Hall. An event designed to share wonderful music and to spend time networking face to face. We all agree that the internet is a lovely place to meet, but that in person it is twice as fun.

Rebel Spirit Music is here to draw artists and music lovers together, grow and move forward as one.
