Anyone who might be seeking that complete pop experience need look no further than New York’s own Ian Axel. Armed with an array of beautifully orchestrated and uplifting songs his performances can launch any audience member to their very own ‘happy place’. As with most of his influences to date - Ben Folds and Randy Newman to name just two - Axel’s penchant is for fun, piano-driven story-telling and when it’s done as perfectly as this its all too easy to see the appeal. Anybody fortunate enough to catch him live - you are the lucky ones.

Pete Harper and Jason Blynn, or ‘Pete and J’ as they are affectionately known, crossed paths in Chicago some six years ago as they bounced from one college band to another. Thankfully, for today’s audiences, both saw fit to fuse their notable flair for bluegrass hooks and eloquent, expressive song-writing to bring about a new dawn in roots/folk music. With an audible similarity to folk greats Crosby, Still & Nash and The Band this fantastic duo compliment one another to unattainable levels. Jason Blynn’s vocal is as boisterous and intense as it is unassuming and tender and to see them perform live is quite simply a must for all music lovers. Atomictom continue the trans-atlantic theme of the night in earnest as they bring their own Brit-inspired rock style to proceedings. With influences as varied as the US’s Dandy Warhols and The Killers to current UK darling’s Franz Ferdinand and The Editors this NYC-based group produce urgent, unashamedly-confident pop/rock music that will certainly grab your attention. Luke White’s stage presence and distinctive vocal, coupled with vibrant, pulsating base lines, has elevated Atomictom’s reputation as astounding live performances to dizzy new heights. Having already received favourable media focus in the US - and with debut single ‘You Always Get What You Want’ blitzing radio stations nationwide - now could be the last time to see this soon-to-be huge band on such an intimate level. This delightful four-piece have generated a sound that captures everything that was great from the late-80’s indie invasion of the UK charts, before tweaking and moulding it into something beautiful for the modern age. Vocally reminiscent of Badly Drawn Boy’s Damon Gough, The Mugs’ optimistic collection of songs have the ability to serve a hearty smile to even the most melancholy of faces. Possessing the brisk writing style of British band The La’s it’s now the turn of these talented Brooklyn-based men to instil the confidence that this type of music has the capacity to invigorate the most weakened and vulnerable of hearts.
