RSM What’s the name of the venue you're going to review? where in the US is it located and what part of town is it in?
WH The Troubadour. Los Angeles off of Santa Monica BLVD.
RSM When did you play this venue and with whom?
WH Played it with Sundown last year. 3 part harmony, one mic, rawked it.
RSM What type of music is played at the venue on a regular basis (Rock, acoustic singer songwriter, dance, etc) and what styles would fit best in the venue?
WH I'd say it's fitting for all types of bands. I've seen electronic bands there, folk bands, and stripped down sets. It's where the Eagles formed, where Neil Young and Linda Ronstandt used to play in the 70's.
RSM What size crowd makes this room feel full? …or Semi full?
WH 200. Downstairs and upstairs. Possibly even more if you cram people in. It has an over flow room similar to that of Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. Very vibey.
RSM Did this venue seem to have patrons/regulars or was the crowd you played to solely there for the artist?
WH Probably some regs. but that was more so back in the day. Mostly crowds there for bands.
RSM What was the sound system and backline like? Did you have any contact with the sound engineer?
WH The sound system was one of the best we played on our mini cross country tour. Seemed like good backline although we only used acoustic guitars so I'm not sure exactly what they had. Don't have contact with the sound engineer but should be on the site.
RSM Is there a charge to enter the venue? Do you know what percentage of the door bands get to keep or did you receive a set fee or tips?
WH There was a charge. Don't remember what the bands get but it is probably similar to the normal 80/20% that a lot of clubs like that have.
RSM Does the venue assist in promoting the show or is promoting the show entirely up to the artist?
WH Yes, massive Billboard sign on Santa Monica and local papers.
RSM Any other things that stand out with the venue?
WH Just that it was legendary for breaking artists such as Elton John, Jackson Brown, The Eagles, CSN used to hang and do shows there.
The staff were among the politest and easy going people that we've met to date.
